BronzeLens presents From Page to Screen Book Club

The BronzeLens Film Festival is happy to announce this new programming venture – PAGE TO SCREEN BOOK CLUB.

We will occasionally read books in preparation of upcoming film releases or even explore past books and their treatment in film.  The discussions will be great for book and film lovers alike and serve as tool for screenwriters to see how and why changes are made as the story transitions between genres.

This inaugural presentation features the novel and upcoming film adaptation “If Beale Street Could Talk”.

Dr. Stephane Dunn, associate professor and Director of the Cinema, Television, & Emerging Media Studies program at Morehouse College will lead the discussion.  The conversation will explore the literary import and contemporary relevance of James Baldwin’s seminal novel, a poetic story of black love, juxtaposed with a slow-burning tragedy fueled by American racism. Dr. Dunn will also examine how the upcoming cinematic adaptation directed by Barry Jenkins honors the source material, staying true to Baldwin’s themes of familial black love, gender inequity, social injustice, and systemic anti-black racism.
